Our Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka bronze medal match prediction backs Bangladesh, with a 65 percent chance of winning. They lost a close, rain shortened semi final to Pakistan, while Sri Lanka were bowled out for 45 by India, the lowest T20I total in their history. The match starts at 9:00 AM Japan time on Saturday, October 3 at Kōrogi Sports Park, Nisshin, which is 6:00 AM in Bangladesh and 5:30 AM in Sri Lanka. If rain wipes it out, both teams get a bronze medal.
Both sides are trying to recover from a bad Thursday, but they are recovering from very different kinds of bad. This preview explains why that matters, along with the history of a rivalry that has produced some of the most heated games in Asian cricket. Every result from the event is on our Asian Games 2026 cricket hub.

What Time Is the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Bronze Match?
| Country | Local start time |
|---|---|
| Japan | 9:00 AM Saturday |
| Bangladesh | 6:00 AM Saturday |
| India and Sri Lanka | 5:30 AM Saturday |
| Pakistan | 5:00 AM Saturday |
| UK | 1:00 AM Saturday |
The early start means a damp outfield is likely again. The Pakistan vs Bangladesh semi final, also a morning game, was cut to 13 overs a side because of a wet field.
What Happens If Rain Washes Out the Bronze Medal Match?
This is the one rule that has changed for the medal games, and many fans have missed it. In the quarter finals and semi finals, a washout sent the higher ranked team through. For the medal matches, there is no ranking tiebreak. If the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka bronze medal match is abandoned, both teams receive a bronze medal. The same applies to the final: if India vs Pakistan is washed out, both get gold.
That is a big change from the last Asian Games. In Hangzhou, the final between India and Afghanistan was rained off and India took gold alone because of their higher ranking. Afghanistan got silver without losing a ball.
What does this mean for today? Neither side gains anything from bad weather in terms of the result, so you will not see one team trying to slow the game down or hoping for a delay. Both captains will want as many overs as possible. It also means the toss call is purely about cricket conditions, not about rain maths.
There is still the usual DLS method if the match starts but gets interrupted. On a pitch where scoring has been hard, a revised target can swing things quickly, so the team batting second must keep an eye on the par score at all times.
How Did Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Lose Their Semi Finals?
Bangladesh lost by six wickets to Pakistan in a 13 over game. Pakistan won the toss and bowled. Bangladesh slipped to 21 for 3 inside four overs, with Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon all gone cheaply. Towhid Hridoy rescued them with 42 off 25 balls, including four sixes, and they reached 111 for 7. Sufyan Moqim took 3 for 26. In reply, Bangladesh had Pakistan at 53 for 4 and were well in the game, but Abdul Samad (30 not out off 15) and Hasan Nawaz (27 not out) finished it with nine balls to spare.
You can read how we previewed that game in our Pakistan vs Bangladesh semi final prediction. We expected Bangladesh’s experience to count, and for half the chase it did. Captain Litton Das said afterwards that not seeing a completed game on this pitch before the semi final hurt his side.
Sri Lanka lost by 124 runs to India. India made 169 for 7, with Ishan Kishan scoring 80 off 46 balls and 15 year old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi adding 38 off 21. Sahan Arachchige took 2 for 28. Then Sri Lanka collapsed for 45 in under ten overs. Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in his first over, and Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma finished the job. Nuwanidu Fernando top scored with 15.
The difference is clear. Bangladesh lost a game they could have won. Sri Lanka lost a game they were never in. Our India vs Sri Lanka semi final preview gave Sri Lanka a 25 percent chance, and even that turned out generous.
Can Sri Lanka Bounce Back From 45 All Out?
Sri Lanka’s previous lowest T20I total was 77, against South Africa in New York at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Thursday’s 45 beat that by 32 runs in the wrong direction. It was also lower than Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s famous 49 in the IPL, a score that still gets mentioned every time a team collapses.
So what went wrong? Three things stand out.
- No time at the crease. This was Sri Lanka’s first match of the tournament, because their quarter final against Nepal was washed out. Their batters had not faced a ball in competitive cricket in Japan, and their first test was Bumrah with the new ball.
- A reserve squad. The regular Sri Lanka T20 players are on tour in England. This group is made up of domestic players and fringe internationals, many of whom have never faced an attack as good as India’s.
- Strange selection. Sri Lanka left out Niroshan Dickwella and Nuwan Thushara, their two most experienced T20I players in the squad, for the semi final. Sohan de Livera kept wicket instead. No clear reason has been given.
The good news for Sri Lanka is that Bangladesh are not India. There is no Bumrah in this attack. If Sri Lanka bring back Thushara and Dickwella, they add experience at both ends of the game. A bronze medal would also be a career moment for many of these players, which is motivation that should not be underestimated.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Head to Head: Why This Rivalry Is Never Quiet
| Record | Detail |
|---|---|
| T20Is played | 22 |
| Sri Lanka wins | 13 |
| Bangladesh wins | 9 |
| Recent trend | Bangladesh have won 3 of the last 5 |
| Highest chase in the fixture | Bangladesh 215 for 5, Colombo, 2018 |
| Asian Games meetings | None before today |
Sri Lanka lead overall, but the numbers have turned in Bangladesh’s favour. Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka at the 2024 T20 World Cup in Dallas, won a T20I series in Sri Lanka 2 to 1 in July 2025, and won the Super Four game at the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai.
This is also one of the most emotional rivalries in Asian cricket. The 2018 Nidahas Trophy in Colombo produced the record Bangladesh chase of 215, led by Mushfiqur Rahim, and a later game in that event that ended in heated scenes and famous celebrations. The 2023 ODI World Cup added the “timed out” dismissal of Angelo Mathews, which the Sri Lanka camp has not forgotten.
None of those headline players are here today. But the history means neither team will treat this as just a third place game. Losing a bronze medal to this particular opponent would hurt either side more than usual.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Records: Top Runs and Top Wickets That Matter Today
Most of the names who built this rivalry, such as Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Kusal Mendis and Wanindu Hasaranga, are not playing in Nisshin. So instead of an all time list that does not apply today, here are the records from players who are actually in the squads.
Top runs to watch.
- Towhid Hridoy scored a fifty against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four win, and his 42 against Pakistan was the best innings by any Bangladesh batter at this event.
- Saif Hassan also hit a fifty in that Asia Cup game in Dubai. He was the second highest scorer against Pakistan with 19.
- Litton Das has been Bangladesh’s most consistent T20I batter for years, but he made just 2 in the semi final. He is due a score.
Top wickets to watch.
- Mustafizur Rahman bowled a key spell in that Asia Cup win over Sri Lanka and has troubled Sri Lankan batters for a decade with his cutters. On a cracked pitch, those slower balls will be even harder to hit.
- Nuwan Thushara, if picked, has 36 wickets in 31 T20Is and is the only Sri Lankan bowler here with a big international record.
- Sahan Arachchige, Sri Lanka’s captain, bowled well against India with 2 for 28. His off spin will be important on a turning pitch.
The pattern here is simple. Bangladesh have players with proven performances against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s squad is mostly playing this fixture for the first time.
What Is at Stake in the Asian Games Medal Table?
Bangladesh won the first ever Asian Games men’s cricket gold in 2010 in Guangzhou, beating Afghanistan in the final. In 2023 they took bronze in Hangzhou, beating Pakistan off the last ball of a five over match. A win today would give them back to back bronze medals.
Sri Lanka won gold in 2014 at Incheon but lost in the quarter finals in 2023. A bronze today would be their first medal in men’s cricket since that gold.
For Bangladesh, there is extra pressure. They brought close to a first choice squad, and anything less than a medal would be seen as a failure at home. For Sri Lanka, there is less expectation and a chance to rescue a tournament that so far has been one bad day. Our Bangladesh vs Malaysia quarter final preview covers how Bangladesh’s squad was picked and why they arrived as medal favourites.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Squads
Bangladesh: Litton Das (captain, wicketkeeper), Towhid Hridoy (vice captain), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Mosaddek Hossain, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Nasum Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud
Sri Lanka: Sahan Arachchige (captain), Ashen Bandara, Lasith Croospulle, Sohan de Livera, Niroshan Dickwella, Binura Fernando, Nuwanidu Fernando, Tharindu Ratnayake, Dushan Hemantha, Sineth Jayawardena, Chamika Karunaratne, Garuka Sanketh, Wanuja Sahan, Nuwan Thushara, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth
Team news: Najmul Hossain Shanto missed the semi final because of illness. His fitness is the main question for Bangladesh. Full squads for every team are on our Asian Games 2026 schedule and squads page.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Bronze Medal Match Possible Playing 11
| Bangladesh | Sri Lanka |
|---|---|
| Tanzid Hasan | Lasith Croospulle |
| Litton Das (c, wk) | Niroshan Dickwella (wk) |
| Parvez Hossain Emon | Sineth Jayawardena |
| Saif Hassan | Ashen Bandara |
| Towhid Hridoy | Sahan Arachchige (c) |
| Najmul Hossain Shanto or Yasir Ali | Nuwanidu Fernando |
| Mosaddek Hossain | Chamika Karunaratne |
| Mahedi Hasan | Wanuja Sahan |
| Rishad Hossain | Vijayakanth Viyaskanth |
| Shoriful Islam | Binura Fernando |
| Mustafizur Rahman | Nuwan Thushara |
Bangladesh will probably keep the same top order despite the semi final collapse. If Shanto is fit, he steadies the middle order. If not, Yasir Ali, who played a big part in the 2023 bronze win, is the natural replacement.
Sri Lanka should make changes after a 45 all out. Our XI brings in Dickwella for Sohan de Livera and Thushara for Tharindu Ratnayake. Both add experience, and Thushara gives them a genuine strike bowler with the new ball.
How Should the Toss Winner Use This Pitch?
The pitch at Kōrogi Sports Park has started to crack, and the bounce has become uneven. Across the tournament, first innings totals have averaged around 135, while second innings have averaged under 90. That gap is huge. Batting last has been very hard here.
Our call: bat first. Post a total, then let the spinners work on a surface that gets worse with every over. Bangladesh, with Rishad, Mahedi and Mosaddek, are better built for this plan than Sri Lanka.
The one reason to bowl first is the morning moisture. If the match starts late and the pitch is damp under cover, seamers like Shoriful, Mustafizur or Thushara could get some early movement. Even then, a target of 120 on this surface is tough to chase.
BAN vs SL Dream11 Team for the Bronze Medal Match
| Role | Players |
|---|---|
| Wicketkeepers | Litton Das |
| Batters | Towhid Hridoy, Saif Hassan, Nuwanidu Fernando |
| All rounders | Mahedi Hasan, Sahan Arachchige, Chamika Karunaratne |
| Bowlers | Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Wanuja Sahan |
Split: Bangladesh 7, Sri Lanka 4.
- Captain: Towhid Hridoy. He was Bangladesh’s only batter to look settled against Pakistan, and he has a fifty against Sri Lanka from the Asia Cup.
- Vice captain: Rishad Hossain. A leg spinner on a cracked pitch facing a batting order that just made 45 is a strong combination.
- Differential: Sahan Arachchige. He bats in the top order and bowls off spin. His 2 for 28 against India shows he can take wickets here.
- If overs are cut: Swap Wanuja Sahan for Tanzid Hasan. In a shorter game, openers and new ball bowlers get more points.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Bronze Medal Match Prediction: Who Takes Bronze?
| Factor | Edge |
|---|---|
| Squad experience | Bangladesh |
| Form in the semi finals | Bangladesh |
| Spin attack | Bangladesh (Rishad, Mahedi, Mosaddek) |
| Recent head to head | Bangladesh, 3 wins in the last 5 |
| Pressure and expectation | Sri Lanka, who have less to lose |
| Washout | Even, both get bronze |
Prediction: Bangladesh 65 percent, Sri Lanka 35 percent.
Our Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka bronze medal match prediction favours Bangladesh because they are the more complete side and they at least played competitive cricket on Thursday. Their top order failed, but Hridoy showed the pitch can be batted on, and their bowlers had Pakistan in trouble at 53 for 4. Rishad and Mustafizur should be too good for a Sri Lanka batting group that has scored 45 runs in the whole tournament.
Sri Lanka have a real chance only if they bat first and get to 130. Then the cracked pitch, Arachchige’s spin and Bangladesh’s own struggles in the semi final come into play. Expect a low scoring game either way.

Yes. Bangladesh won men’s gold in 2010 and bronze in 2023, when they beat Pakistan off the last ball. Sri Lanka won gold in 2014 at Incheon, so whichever side wins today adds a second medal to their Asian Games record.
One Last Thought Before the Bronze
This match is less about who is the better team on paper and more about who recovers faster. Bangladesh lost a game they felt they should have won. Sri Lanka lost a game in a way they will want to forget. Bangladesh have the players, the spin and the recent record, so they should take bronze. But on a cracked pitch at 9:00 in the morning, with a damp outfield and a lot of pride involved, the first ten overs will tell you more than any prediction. Then stay tuned for India vs Pakistan in the gold medal match a few hours later.
